Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston announced their separation in January 2005 after seven years together and nearly five years of marriage.
The couple, once considered Hollywood’s ultimate golden pair, had tied the knot in July 2000, officially finalizing their divorce in March 2005.
In a joint statement, they expressed: «After seven years together, we have decided to formally separate. For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any speculation reported by the tabloid media.»
«This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration. We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another,» they added.
The announcement coincided with the filming of «Mr. & Mrs. Smith,» which premiered in June 2005. In the movie, Pitt played John Smith and Angelina Jolie portrayed Jane Smith.
During that time, according to Courteney Cox, Aniston’s Friends co-star, Pitt reportedly made an honest confession to Aniston, although the specific details of that conversation were not disclosed.
This event marked a significant shift in both actors’ personal and professional lives.
