Noticias País, Victorville, California – The community is in deep sorrow after the tragic event that took the life of Deputy Héctor Cuevas Jr., a six-year veteran of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect has been identified as Ryan Dwayne Turner Jr., a 22-year-old with an extensive criminal history. He faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and evading law enforcement.

Turner had previously been arrested for similar crimes, including evading police, which caused another officer to crash.

The incident occurred before 11 a.m. when authorities received a report of a stolen vehicle. Cuevas’ patrol unit joined the chase.

The crash happened at the intersection of El Evado and Seneca Road. The patrol car hit another vehicle before slamming into a light pole.

The impact was so severe that the patrol car split in half. Cuevas suffered critical injuries and lost his life at the scene.

In an emotional procession, officers from multiple agencies escorted his body to the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office.

Along the route, citizens and firefighters paid tribute. A large American flag waved at the entrance of the facility.

Cuevas was not only an exemplary public servant but also a father, husband, and football coach.

His wife, two children, parents, and siblings now face the pain of his absence.

Sheriff Shannon Dicus expressed his sorrow: «Héctor is the kind of officer we all aspire to be. His loss leaves a deep wound.»

A woman in her 20s was injured in the collision. She was released without fractures or serious injuries.

Authorities tracked down the stolen vehicle and arrested Turner, who will appear in court this Tuesday.

The San Bernardino Officers’ Association mourned his loss, highlighting his bravery and service.

The investigation continues as the community honors the memory of a man who gave his life in the line of duty.
