Noticias País, California – Yesica Barajas, 31, lost control of her vehicle, causing a fatal crash that took the lives of her children, Damien Montañez (10) and Aaliyah Montañez (9).
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Barajas was speeding when her 2006 Nissan veered off Highway 29 and hit a tree early Sunday morning.
Authorities suspect that alcohol and speed played a role in the accident. Barajas suffered serious injuries and remains under police custody at Queen of the Valley Hospital. Her bail was set at $500,000, and she faces DUI-related charges.
The community is devastated. Gabriel Cárdenas, who visited the crash site, said, «The kids should have been home watching cartoons with their cereal».
Family friend Ángela Villaseñor shared, «Everyone is still in shock. No one is prepared for something like this».
The Napa Valley Unified School District expressed its sorrow, offering counseling and support to those affected. «Our hearts are with the family as we grieve together», a spokesperson said.
